Healthy Snacks for a Road Trip

rosie and I are going on a little road trip this Saturday.  I decided to make a list of the snacks I would be taking with me.  I normally eat really healthy.  I will eat healthy on trips but I do like to eat some junky food too.  Chips are my weakness.  This trip I am going to be really good.

water

I will bring a gallon of water from home.  I buy a gallon of water and keep the jugs and refill them.  In Oregon we have great tasting water.  I used to drink a whole gallon in a day.  Not so much anymore but I still try.

almonds

I try to keep almonds with me at all times.  Roasted are my favorite, but I buy them raw from Costco and I would like to try to roast some myself.  I dont mind the extra work if I can save some monies!

carrots

I do not like baby carrots.  They do not taste delicious to me.  I like carrots if they are peeled.  I am going to peel and cut up some so they are ready to go.  I would love to keep cut carrots in the fridge at all times.  I am sure I would eat them more.

cucumbers

I can eat a whole engilsh cucumber in a sitting.  I try not to cause they arent always cheap.  I will happily eat half.  Rosie and would share them a lot when we worked at the farm together.

dark chocolate covered raisins
These are my treat.  I love dark chocolate!  No milk.  I like raisins too.  I didnt as a kid but now I really like them.  I feel like they are a cheat but they are natures candy right?  Cover them in chocolate and they are even better!

I plan on making some lettuce wrapped turkey "unwiches" for lunch unless we pick up some tacos.  I would be ok with that too!

What foods do you take on a road trip?

heart you

  2. Trader Joes has so many trail mixes--whenever we go on a road trip we always stock up on that! They also have some dried fruit I love packing on hikes for a little boost! Good post :)

  3. I'm with you on unsalted almonds, whether they be raw or self-roasted!

  4. My mom would always pack cheese and crackers when we went on road trips… I think for nostalgia reasons I do the same. I have to agree with all the above comments- you definitely need a good playlist, Trader Joe's has amazing snacks (sea salt chocolate covered almonds!) and good ol' raw almonds are one of my go-to snacks too.

  5. My husband recently started smoking almonds and they are delicious. If you don't have a smoker, you can do it in a charcoal barbecue as well.I also second Aubrie on those sea salt chocolate almonds. I am obsessed with them.
